and posts on social media about people asking few weekend getaway destinations
from the City. Being an avid traveler, I
have decided to provide you with the list of 5 uncommon budget weekend getaway
places from Kolkata, West Bengal
Now there are many articles and posts out there referring to
various places like Digha, Mandarmani being the most common place while I also
found Darjeeling and even Kurseong on the same list as well. Let me be honest
here reaching the hill stations of Darjeeling and Kurseong takes 1 or 2 days so
how can we even count them on the list of our weekend getaways. Moreover
getting reservations on the train also becomes difficult within a short period
especially during festive seasons. So after doing a little research and even
from my own experience, I have finally found out five places for all those
travelers who are looking for weekend getaways from the City.
Below provided are the top 5 ultimate budget weekend
destinations that you should visit this Winter.
TALASARI BEACH
This exotic weekend destination is a treat for those
travelers who are looking for little solitude. Located at a distance of 194
kilometers the Talasari beach is situated at a distance of just 10 Kilometers
from Digha. So if you are planning to drive or ride there in your motorcycles,

railway station is Jaleshwar which is about 36 km away from the destination.
This is a fishing village, and thus you can interact with
local fisherman and even get to taste some fish from the fresh catch of the
day. There are few palm trees as well which enhances the overall beauty of the
village. The water at this beach is calm and not as turbulent as other sea
beaches. You can witness the sunrise and sunset at this beach which can be an
unique experience.

PURULIA
Purulia is definitely an offbeat tourist destination for
those who enjoys greenery and loves to watch some old archeological remains of
forts and temples. Moreover this is the place which is also famous for its
Chau, Jhumur and Bhuang dance as well.
Distance from Kolkata to Purulia by road is about 298
kilometers while the nearest railway station is Purulia Junction and there are
plenty of trains which runs in between Kolkata and Purulia junction.
PLACES OF INTEREST
One of the major tourist attractions in Purulia is Ayoddha
hill. This particular site located on the outskirts of Purulia district. The
distance from the Purulia junction to Ayodha is about 40 kilometers. For those
who adventure enthusiasts who enjoy rock climbing can come and visit this place
atleast once.
Another important place in Purulia is Garh Panchkaot which

a distance of about 185 Kilometers from Kolkata and about 14 Kilometres from
the renowned beach of Digha Shankarpur is a place for those tourists who love
the sea, sand, and sun. The nearest railway station is Digha, and there are
plenty of trains which leaves from the Howrah almost every day.

Like I already mentioned above this area is definitely for
those people who only love to spend time on the beach and tasting various kind
of fish from the fresh catch by the local fisherman.

Bishnupur like many of you already know is famous for its Terracotta

time. The distance between Kolkata and Bishnupur is about 140 Kilometers by
road. You can also reach the place by train as well, the nearest railway
station is Bishnupur, and there are plenty of trains which go to the site from
Kolkata. There are frequent bus services as well available from Kolkata every
day.

Like I mentioned already the place is famous for its
temples. The popular tourist destination has plenty of temples which includes
Pancha Ratna Temple / Shyam Rai temple, Jor Bangalow temple, Radheshyam temple,
Dolmadol Kaman, etc. This place is known across India for its Baluchari sarees
so if you love shopping for your family, then you will enjoy coming to this

Bakkhali is another weekend getaway destination from Kolkata
and is slightly less populated compared to some other sea beaches of West
Bengal. Distance from Kolkata to
Bakkhali is about 126 Kilometers. You can also reach Bakkhali by train; there
are some passengers trains which leaves from Sealdah and reaches Namkhana
station from where you will have to take a Ferry from where you will also have
to make a bus to reach the destination.
PLACES OF INTEREST
Apart from sea beach, there are few other tourist
attractions as well which includes windmill of Frasergunj and also the
crocodile propagation center. You can watch the sunrise and sunset on the beach
and even take a stroll on the empty beaches in the evening if you want.
