Top 5 Motorcycling Destinations For Amateur Riders In India

To be quite honest I am a huge motorcycle enthusiast and often have searched for some of the top motorcycling destinations in India. The good news is that I have found plenty of them on different websites, Travel Blogs and social media pages. The not so good points about them are that there are few posts out there which describes whether they are for beginner, amateur or professional riders.

Let me explain it in few more sentences I have been riding motorcycles for the past 8 or 9 years and I have completed many trips, but still, I don't think I can ride with a professional group of riders for long distance (say 500 Kilometer) continuously. In simple words what I am trying to explain is not although there are plenty of riders out there everyone has their own style of riding and stamina. Being Motorcycle enthusiasts and having stayed in the world of Automotive Journalism for almost five years now I have decided to throw some light on this topic and also share with you guys the top 5 destinations suitable for amateur riders.

Weapons of choice

If you ask me what the perfect motorcycle for long rides is then I would tell you whichever suits your needs and makes you comfortable is the ultimate weapon of choice for you. It can be a Royal Enfield, Bajaj, KTM, Honda or even some high-end motorcycles as well like the Benelli, Triumph or Ducati. To be quite honest there is no such thing as "the perfect motorcycle".  It can be anything starting from a commuter to a high-end tourer depending on your budget.

Trust me staying in the automotive journalism field I have learned one thing. Owning a high-end motorcycle does not make you a real biker, but your determination, zeal, courage, and behavior towards other people on the road are what makes you different from any other average Indian riders. Now we will talk about this some other day. Let us focus on what you guys are really here for.

These are the top five motorcycling destinations in India which are ideal for Amateur riders who are looking to take their first big trip.

NORTH EAST: GUWAHATI TO CHERRAPUNJI

Best Time To Visit: Summer season March to May
                                winter season October to February

North East especially Meghalaya is definitely a place that I want to keep on the top of the list namely for two reasons. Number one is the beauty of this area while the second one is the beautiful roads which make it an ideal destination for riders.

I covered this Journey last year on a motorcycle and trust me the road from Shillong to Cherrapunji is definitely one of the best roads I have ridden on. The sleepy hilly villages on the way to Cherrapunji, the playful clouds and the green forests all adds up to the drama.

Meghalaya like you all know is called adobe of clouds and thus makes your ride mesmerizing and adventurous at the same time. Guwahati to Cherrapunji is not a hard motorcycle trip, although the roads have lots of twists and turns but they are full and are in good shape (at least it was a year ago when I completed my trip). If you are planning not to take your motorcycle from your City, I think there are few bike rentals in Guwahati as well from where you can rent a bike but I, have no idea what are the conditions of their motorcycles though.

SIKKIM: Kolkata to Gurudongmar lake

Sikkim can be an exciting riding destination for those who do not want to take the treacherous Ladakh ride just yet. In Sikkim you will find almost everything that you have looked for from your road trips, be it negotiating with the twist and turns, watching splendid sunrise or sunset from the different viewpoints or even riding to Gurudongmar Lake which can also be called mini Pangong Lake. Sikkim offers you the taste of everything in a small package.  Either you decide to visit some well-known Tourists places or decided to stay in a less crowded area is entirely your choice. But there are plenty of places to see and visit in Sikkim and this particular state can be an ideal Motorcycle destination for Amateur riders for sure.

ANDHRA PRADESH: Vishakapattanam To Araku Valley

Best Time To Visit: Anytime time of the year avoid the monsoons though.

The serene mountains and the twisty will what attract your attention if you decide to ride to Vishakapattanam. Once you are here stay for one day in Vishakapattanam and then you can ride to Araku valley. Distance from Vizag to Araku valley is about 116 Kilometers, and the roads are quite beautiful as well especially with the green surroundings.  Do visit this place once in your life.

RAJASTHAN: Jaipur to Jaisalmer

Best Time To Visit: October to February

If you love desert, long stretch of roads and meeting different people from the various culture, then you will enjoy this road trip.  The fantastic highway stretches for about 558 kilometers and will take about 8 to 10 hours depending on your riding behavior. If you are in Jaipur, don't forget to visit the Nahargarh Fort if you are in Rajasthan.  There is no denying the fact when we call Rajasthan the land of kings and has a rich historical background. If you want to mix with the locals and experience the rich culture up close then, there is entirely no other better way to do it than taking a motorcycle ride through the City.

KERALA: Kochi To Munnar

Best Time to Visit: Peak Season ranges from September to March, off season is from April to May and Monsoon season from June to August

Kerala just like the other states of India has a lot to offer. Although there is not anything special to see in the City, however, there are plenty of historical buildings in the City. From Kochi, you can travel to Munnar.

Driving or riding your motorcycles within the City can be bit painful because of the heavy traffic, but Kochi is much more disciplined and calm compared to some other big towns of India. Once you get out of the City you and ride for few hours the scenario around you will begin changing from plain lands to hilly landscapes. It will take around 5 hours to reach Munnar from Kochi.

There are plenty of hotels in Munnar, but they are bit expensive. You will find plenty of tea plantations over there although this is not the only state where you will find tea plantation alongside that, you will also notice Cocoa plantation as well. Do not forget to try the local chocolates here.
